Are these printers really FSC-certified?

An increasing number of formerly FSC-certified printers are misleading consumers, inadvertently or intentionally, into believing they are still FSC-certified. Time and again in recent months, I have checked the certificate numbers of purportedly “FSC-certified” printers, only to find their certificate is no longer listed as valid in the FSC database.Yet, claims of FSC certification remain on their websites and printed marketing materials.

I have been reporting these printers to FSC – and you should too! FSC has a simple procedure for reporting trademark misuse.

Greenwashing like this needs to be stopped if we are going to support FSC in its mission to “promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.” Urge formerly certified printers to remove outdated claims. Send a note to FSC to help them identify trademark violators. Better yet, tell these printers to get re-certified, resume independent certification, and promote sustainable forestry!
